2009 Kia Borrego

The Kia Borrego is offering something that you might not expect- a full size V8 sport utility. While gas prices have come down substantially, Kia Motors may be taking advantage of several factors at play to shoe horn in their full size SUV – specifically GM’s downturn and Ford’s reworking of its Explorer. While many still don’t view Kia as one of the most reliable vehicles the Kia Borrego definitely earns high marks on components, quality control and value. If you are looking to haul the family and require true off road capabilities, the 2009 Kia Borrego is a winner.

Underneath the hood is a very healthy power plant. It includes a 4.6 liter 32 valve V8 that pumps out a very respectable 336 horsepower with 373 lb ft of torque. In addition, one of the nicest aspects of this vehicle is the transmission- a ZF 6 speed with automatic and overdrive. The Borrego also includes 17 inch tires and 114 inch wheel base. Other numbers that definitely make the Kia Borrego a staunch full size 4×4 is its 7,500 towing capacity and curb weight of 4,600 + pounds. With these numbers, you can tell that Kia is serious about being competitive with the big boys and if it’s any indication of its off road capabilities, it is definitely giving them a run for their money. On the trail, the Borrego definitely offers great handling and plenty of power. In fact, you wouldn’t even notice that this big SUV can hold 7 passengers and plenty of cargo with all the nimble maneuvering it exhibits.

Inside, there are all the creature comforts that soccer moms would expect and a nicely designed dash and instrument panel layout. Best of all is the nice, budget friendly price of about $30K base.
