World’s first double-clutch transmission for commercial vehicles
July 28th, 2010 by Arman
Fuso announced development of the very first double-clutch DSG gearbox specifically designed for commercial vehicles.
It’s called the the “Duonic”, and combines automated driving with the advantages of a manual transmission. Like ordinary cars, this system comes with accelerator pedal, a brake pedal and a selector lever. The selector lever allows automatic or manual gearshift.

The M038S6 “Duonic transmission” has six forward gears and a reverse gear. The P-function ensures safe parking by preventing the vehicle from rolling away. “Duonic” features a non-wearing wet clutch, which lowers maintenance costs by eliminating the need to replace worn clutch discs. A creep function has been added to the wet clutch, as is usual for automatic transmission with a torque converter. This enables the vehicle’s speed to be easily controlled when moving slowly – for example when manoeuvring or in stop-and-go traffic – and hill-starts are also made easier.

EcoBoost Four-cylinder engine for new Ford Explorer
July 21st, 2010 by Arman
Ford Explorer has never been considered as a small SUV, and rest assured the 2011 model which will be unveiled soon is also no tiny thing! But Ford announced the car will comes with an optional EcoBoost 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine.
While that’s good for economy, it does not sound sufficient for a car like the Explorer.

Although they are not revealing any performance figures yet, but Ford says this new engine delivers the same sort of power as a conventional V6 while offering fuel economy of a small In-line 4 unit, thanks to direct injection and turbochargers.
“The all-new Explorer will give a huge universe of existing and prospective customers the capability they expect and the luxury and convenience they want, all combined with the fuel economy they need,” said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas.
“Explorer owners told us they want capability with convenience, and improved fuel economy without compromised performance,” Fields said. “We believe we’ve hit the mark with the next-generation Explorer. It has the potential to change perceptions of what a modern SUV is all about.”

Jeep Off-road Camper Trailers
July 21st, 2010 by Arman
Much to the delight of off-road enthusiasts, Jeep and Mopar revealed the first ever camper trailers which have off-road capability.
Jeep Trail and Extreme Trail campers are designed to cope with the Wrangler model’s rugged go-anywhere characteristic, and therefore they have the same design cues, including Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 17-inch cast-aluminum wheels.

These campers are available in normal and extreme versions which differ in height and ground clearance. Avaialble in four colors, Trial models have a MSRP of $9,995, while the Extreme runs for $11,995.
Unlike conventional recreational campers, the Jeep Trail Edition camper features an extensive use of lightweight tubular-aluminum construction (no wood or fiberboard materials) in order to mitigate the additional load on the Jeep tow vehicle and make operation a breeze. This also helps to keep the weight down thus making them easier to tow behind the car.
