BMW X1 to be built in China
April 22nd, 2010 by Arman
BMW has set up a new production plant in Tiexi in the Shenyang, China mainly for the region-specific models such as the long wheelbase 5-Series, but now they are also considering bulding the X1 SUV there as well.
This will boost the production volume of this crossover. It will also expands BMW’s growing market in the promising Chinese market.
“We are confident that this market will continue to see strong growth over the next few years. Our goal is to participate in that growth over the long term,” Reithofer explained. “With our new plant in Tiexi, we will be increasing our production capacity in China to 100,000 vehicles a year from 2012 on. Over the long term, we anticipate the two plants having combined potential for as many as 300,000 vehicles a year – depending on market trends. We may realistically need this potential over the long term”.

BMW X5 named the luxury SUV of 2010
February 3rd, 2010 by Arman
In Off Road magazine Off-roader of the year poll, BMW X models have been quite sucessful as the X5, X6 and X3 and X1 win different awards.
The best however is the Luxury SUV of the year award which goes to BMW X5 due to its intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive, powerful and efficient engines and an interior which is both flexible and luxuriously equipped.

The recently introduced BMW ActiveHybrid X6 took the Eco Award for its innovative powertrain. This first full-hybrid model from the BMW brand uses its highly intelligent combination of internal combustion engine and electric drive to maximise both performance and efficiency.
Also in the crossover segment, BMW X1 took the first place beating hte X6 to the second place. X5’s smaller brother the BMW X3 too won the second place in the SUV segment. This title is not very impressive, but after all the X3 is a rubbish SUV which can;t go off-road and it’s also really ugly!

2010 BMW ActiveHybrid X6
November 12th, 2009 by Arman
BMW has introduced a new model from its ActiveHybrid series which is based on the X6, and it’s one of the finest examples of hybrid 4×4s ever built.
The hybrid powertrain of the X6 consists of a regular V8 engine and two electric motors which are fed by Li-Io batteries installed in the rear compartment. So it manages to be powerful and economical at the same time. Considering its capabilities, this car delivers great values.

The main source of power is a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 300 kW/407 hp, it is mated to two electric motors developing 67 kW/91 hp and, respectively, 63 kW/86 hp, so the system chucks out a combined power of 357 kW/485 hp and peak torque of 780 Newton-metres/575 lb-ft. This make the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 the most powerful hybrid vehicle in the world.
Over and above the electric motors, the high-performance battery also supplies electrical energy to the power-consuming items linked to the 12-volt on-board network. The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is equipped with electromechanical power steering and an electrical climate compressor both remaining fully functional also when the combustion engine is switched off and enhancing the overall efficiency of the vehicle to an even higher standard through their on-demand consumption and uptake of energy.

As for the performance and fuel economy, the X6 AH delivers great numbers for both! It takes the car only 5.6 seconds to reach 100km/h from stand still, while the average fuel consumption is fairly low at 9.9 litres/100 km (equivalent to 28.5 mpg imp), the CO2 emission rating is 231 grams/kilometre.
