Chevrolet Avalanche 2009

November 30th, 2008 by Justin

Chevrolet makes some good, solid trucks and while they are not as much their bread and butter as Ford, you can count on a wide variety of Chevy trucks to get you from point A to point B and do it in style with lots of comfort and utility.  This is exactly what the Chevrolet Avalanche is all about.  This is a very comfortable truck and if you use your truck as an office when off site or like to enjoy your commute to work either on road or off, the Chevrolet Avalanche definitely impresses.  While I wouldn’t go as far as saying it is the best on the market, it does have great styling, plenty of features and a lot of components that make this truck top rated in my book.

Chevrolet Avalanche 2009

Under the Hood of the Chevrolet Avalanche
The Chevrolet Avalanche has plenty of power and is perfect for both on and off road driving.  The Avalanche comes with a large 5.3 liter V8 engine.  This engine is smooth, but does provide plenty of torque when you need it.  And while this engine is paired with a 4 speed (some say economy) transmission it is just time before this bad boy is probably paired with a six speed auto with overdrive.  The 4 wheel drive capability is done very nicely and off roading is quite easy with this vehicle.  In the rear are rear leaf springs that are a perfect match for the truck bed.  If you haul off road on trails, you will love the suspension- it is perfect for the trails.

All in all, this truck is very well done.  While it is on the pricier side of about $36K base it offers plenty of power, convenience, comfort and utility.  The Avalanche is a definite winner by Chevy.

Chevrolet Silverado - 2009

October 6th, 2008 by Justin

Are you looking for a great 4×4 truck that is perfect for work or play, one truck that is definitely turning heads is the 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500.  The Chevy Avalanche 1500 comes in two main styles a 4×2 and 4×4.  The 4×4 comes in 4 different trims making it easy to find the perfect truck to fit your needs.  The Avalanche has impressive specs and offers a variety of interior and exterior features that definitely add value.  Here are just some of details on this desirable 4×4.

2009 Chevrolet Avalanche

The 2009 4×4 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 comes in 4 different trim levels:  the LS, LT1, LTZ and LT2.  It should be noted that all trim models have similar engine and towing specs.  You will find on all 4 trims a 5.3 liter V8 engine that produces a healthy 315 horsepower and 338 lbs of torque.  All four trim levels also can haul a payload of 1,433 pounds with a maximum capacity of 5,500 lbs.  It should be noted that the gross weight of this truck for all trims is a hefty 7,200 lbs. With a decent payload, you can expect to get a lot of functionality out of this truck either on or off road.

Plenty of Seating Inside
The 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4×4 offers plenty of room inside.  In fact, the LS version sits up to 6 and the other three trims offer seating for 5, but whether you use this truck for work or play, you will have enough room inside to carry around your friends or family.  As far as gas mileage goes, the 2009 Chevy Avalanche 4×4 gets a respectable 20 mph highway and 14 city.  Budget wise, the Avalanche can vary by a wide margin.  In fact, depending on trims and features, you can spend either in the low 30’s or mid 40’s for this vehicle.  However, all in all, the 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche is definitely a respectable truck with plenty of functionality.

Chevrolet S-10

July 5th, 2007 by Shenron

The Chevrolet S-10 was one of Chevrolet’s longer lived models, lasting from 1982 until 2004 when it was replaced by the Colorado.  The S-10 was one of the more popular trucks that left the lines in the 80’s and 90’s - it has also been replaced by the Isuzu i-Series.  The first models of the Chevrolet S-10 featured engines that ranged from a measly 92HP 2.5L to a 180 HP V6 4.3L - not very impressive by standards of today.  However this first series, or generation, persisted all the way to 93, until being replaced.   There were other engines that were compatible with it, and optional, but the most powerful of them was the final year of production’s (93) Vortec 4.3, which gave the truck a nice 195 HP, and in some cases could jump it past 200 horses.  The vehicle also had a four door variant that was released in the early 90s, and finally, the next generation came out.

Angles sang, clouds parted, and a truck worthy of challenging its Ford rival rode in onto the scene, the Chevrolet S-10 came in packing a 4.3L V6 that left it with almost two hundred horses, along with a regular cab model, an extended cab model, and a regular cab long bed model - the fuel capacity was a good 19 gallons and it had either a four speed auto along with a four speed manual.  Greatly improved and capable this model lasted for ten years without any major revisions that weren’t cosmetic.  The Chevrolet S-10 was sold with two wheel or four wheel drive, and in the late 90’s SS packages were replaced by Xtreme packages.  Although the S-Series has finished production - they are still being assembled and sold in Brazil, and come with 2.8 Diesels - it is the truck that won’t die.  Because the engine size between the small block V8 and the Chevrolet S-10 are compatible it has become common for hot-rodders to “upgrade” the Chevrolet S-10 - giving it upwards of 300 or more horses.

Chevrolet SSR

July 5th, 2007 by Shenron

The Chevrolet SSR is not quite a truck, but at the same time not quite an SUV - it happens to be both when you look at it.  Designed for a sleek appearance and based ion the GMT360 platform this mean machine can do many tasks while remaining to be a pile of metal that can launch itself through a glass window when need be - yes I am joking.  SSR stands for Super Sport Roadster and it is a convertible pickup truck produced between 03 and 06.  No plans to reintroduce the truck are, have been, or likely ever will be, announced.  In ten years time this little ditty will be collectable seeing that only about 24k ever made it off the line.  The power behind this vehicle is the Vortec 5300 V8 engine, or optionally you could bump up from that 5.3L to a much better and powerful 6.0L LS2 V8, giving you 390 horses under its strange looking hood.  The reason this vehicle proved to be so darn un-likeable had to be that it was overall disliked - seeing that sales dropped below expectations forcing layoffs at the SSR factory and losing jobs for folks - then the entire Lansing Craft Center seemed to have been shut down out of spite (it was the place this SSR was built).

Although the SSR wasn’t as popular as hoped, under the hood lies a sleeping powerhouse with the lovely LS2 V8 with modifications in the final production year - I guess they figured what the heck.  The last manuals were capable of 6 speed 400 horsepower fury, while the four speed auto was capable of just 5 horses under that at 395 - and judging by the late release of this modification it is fair to say that had they done it sooner, perhaps it would have been more popular or at least, desirable for the engine output alone.
