Chevrolet Colorado

July 5th, 2007 by Shenron

The Chevrolet Colorado is a mid-sized pickup truck with a good hauling capacity and an overall useful design, one of the tops anyways.  It was first introduced in 04 and comes in either a two door or a four door design with front engine real wheel drive along with four wheel drive, and it uses the GMT335 platform for its main makeup.  The Chevrolet Colorado comes loaded with either a 3.5L engine or a 2.8L engine - however for this year there are two new generation 2.9L or 3.7 L engines that provide more hauling and pulling power, along with a few new colors.  The vehicle is not quite as popular as its larger cousins but makes up for that in its ability to be median priced, and still being the highest selling unit in the Ford line - it is surpassed in sales by the Toyota Tacoma.  The Colorado offers both manual and automatic transmissions; with the automatic being a four speed and the manual a comfortable and common five speed.  There is also a sport suspension version available called the ZQ8.

It is interesting to note that the Colorado replaced the much beloved Chevrolet S10 and is based on the GMT355, while the GMT355 is based on the GMT345 - and that is what the Hummer H3 uses for its platform.  The GMT3555 has a current rumor surrounding it about future support for a greatly more powerful and enhanced V8 engine that would add additional horses to the Colorado, and give it a bump up above the competition.  Over all the Colorado is a very competent vehicle, capable of hauling most things and pulling trailers, and is good for someone who is not going to be making heavy hauls of major material - additionally the four door model is excellent for person and tool transportation for construction jobs or other necessities that need to be fulfilled.

Chevrolet Avalanche

July 5th, 2007 by Shenron

The Chevrolet Avalanche is a recent truck design that was first hatched up back not too long ago, and later by 2001 they had decided to use the GMT8000 platform for the vehicle, being that the platform was also used at the time by the other more common trucks by Chevy - the Silverado.  Well off from the assembly line came this sport utility truck, the Chevrolet Avalanche comes as a four door truck with front engine read wheel drive, and four wheel drive.  It has a four speed automatic transmission and a 130 inch wheelbase - it is considered as a technicality as a full size pickup truck and it is indeed capable of hauling. Optionally you can choose between two engines, the 5.3 liter that has about 300 horses, but just under that or the much better and stronger 8.1L 325 horses engine, which greatly improves its hauling capability - this engine only came available just late last year.   One of the more interesting things about the Avalanche is the way in which you can fold a part of the bed into the back seat - giving more room for hauling.  The midgate design allows for basically conversion into a sleeper unit of sorts, with the size for two sleeper bags to be flopped own and use, while they remain protected from the weather - an excellent design for the avid camper and outdoors person.

Although the current design is popular, it has been discontinued for the next line of GMT900 truck platforms, which will see improved design and better features than the first generation of Avalanche vehicles.  The Avalanche still keeps its front design style derived from other GMT900s, however the midgate and integrated bed are something only it has, and this remains almost the same between the two generations - these newer trucks will be equipped with either a 320 or 366 horsepower engine that are 5.3L and 6.0L respectively.

Chevrolet Silverado (Overview)

July 5th, 2007 by Shenron

The Silverado is one of the best selling trucks today, with a great reason as to why.  It is a good truck and a powerful truck, the Silverado has rivaled the Ford F-Series and can outclass it in a few categories.  The truck features both read and full wheel drive, with the Silverado being capable of hauling a whole ten thousand pounds.  The Silverado is of course, based on the GMT800, and it comes in various forms and makes.  If you’re looking for a truck to use for generally lighter trailers you should consider a Light-Duty Silverado, however if you need some extra pull, the Heavy Duty’s do their own bit of damage, in a comparative sense.  The Heavy Duty Silverado is capable of 325 horses with the right engine and each one can come in either a full cab or crew cab, with enough room to seat five people. The models are the Silverado 1500 Regular Cab, which is great for when you are just hauling, and are made with a variety of engines, ranging from 200 horses to 295 horses, make sure you know what you need.  The 1500 Extended cab lets you seat more folks, perfect for if you are needing help with what you’re hauling around.  Then there’s the 2500 (which is no longer produced) that has a 300 horse engine, also a good model.

About the HD’s, or Heavy Duty’s, they come in either the 1500HD the 2500HD or the Silverado 3500 HD models. The 1500 capable of 300 horses and hauling an amazingly huge 10k pounds along with being able to haul 3k in the bed of the truck, the 2500 is capable of 310 or 340 horses and has been able to haul a huge 16k pounds - along with also having 4k in the bed, and the 3500, by far the most powerful, can haul a whopping 16.7K along with 5.5K in the bed.  These trucks are built for power, and power is what they have in them.  They have all been to this point discontinued with the GMT800 series of trucks, and are now going to be replaced with the new GMT900’s.  These upgrades make it worth waiting to see what is new, or just waiting for the price to drop down on the 800’s.

Chevrolet C/K

July 2nd, 2007 by Shenron

The Chevrolet C/K was a full sized pickup truck that was also known as the GMC C/K.  The truck lasted a good number of years, being replaced once by GMC in 1988 and finally being replaced by Chevrolet in 1999 with the Silverado.  The C/K is a classic truck that served from the sixties to the nineties, and did a wonderful job in doing so.  The first ones rolled off the line in sixty two and were equipped with engines that varied from the smaller 3.9L V6’s to the larger 5.4 V8’s of the time.  This first model that was in production from sixty two to sixty six was soon outclassed by the second generation of trucks that lasted from sixty seven to seventy two, in which all the engines were above 4.6L, with the largest being the Bog Block V8 6.5L.   In seventy one, right before the change to another generation of vehicles, there were some changes with the design, being that it came with a better interior and a radio that did AM and FM.

The next version was what could be considered the third generation, and it lasted for a full two weeks of years (14 years) and saw several additions, with even diesel V8’s introduced to the line.  This is by far the most recognized of the older model trucks and it served many purposes, being specially outfitted to haul a lot of stuff.  The lines also had names I won’t bore you with, as the Chevrolet C/K came with a nice bunch of different additions, which would be great if they hadn’t been so expensive. The Chevrolet C/K made its final generation between eighty eight and ninety nine, with engines that ranged to 7.4 liters and could haul a nice amount of material in one load.

Chevrolet El Camino

July 2nd, 2007 by Shenron

Who could forget the Chevy El Camino?  Why, that car, wait, truck, wait, what in the heck was it!?  It was a truck that was developed, and manufactured in direct competition with the Ford Ranchero, it was produced for only a few years with the first original model, then it was brought back right about the time Lyndon B. Johnson had finished his first year in office (1964).  The first Chevrolet El Camino to roll off the lot came with either the inline six engine, the small block V8, or the Big Block V8, and looked like an Impala.   This model did not sell very well so only about thirty thousand were made and sold, and today this first generation model is highly sought after by collectors and owners alike.  When the Ranchero continued to sell profitably for Ford, Chevrolet decided in 64 to re-release the El Camino, except this time with a new twist.

The El Camino was back, and this time it only came with the Bigger Small-Block V-8 or the even bigger Big-Block V8 (both engines were significantly larger than their predecessors) and sported a healthy 350 horses under the hood.  The car itself looked like a Chevelle, since it was based on that model, but right after this in 68 they redesigned the vehicle to bring in a new higher performance engine and a new look.  This time the engines were even bigger - and with no more Small Block, instead it had the LS6 V8 added on to the lineup and was capable of 450 horses outright.  73 takes little note since that was a re-styled El Camino that looked like the newly changed Chevelle - it virtually remained the same on the inside as the outside.  Finally in 1978 the most dramatic change was made to the El Camino - it was smaller and had a four headlight front much like the classics from the years before.  The Chevelle at this time had been rendered deceased and as such began to look more like the Malibu.  After 1987 the El Camino followed the path of the Chevelle.
