Dodge Ram SRT-10
July 7th, 2007 by shenron
In 2002 Dodge decided to introduce a new kind of Ram, one that had more speed, in fact the entire reason they made it was for speed. This vehicle was based on the same Dodge series in production, and is manufactured up to this year, with its end of production being 2007. The Dodge Ram SRT-10 has an 8.3L 500 horse V10 engine that can suck gas down like you would not believe - it also has the same transmission options as the normal Dodge Ram. Its fuel capacity is 26 gallons and it is capable of reaching 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. Read that again. 4.6 seconds from a Dodge truck that has 525 pounds per foot of torque. The entire vehicle minus a passenger weighs five thousand pounds and it can go a hundred and fifty five miles per hour, in addition to having one of the most powerful V-10s available. By default the Dodge Ram SRT-10 came with an eight speaker stereo system and sub-woofers that have over five hundred watts of sound combined. The neighborhood would hear that one coming.
In twenty hundred and five the Quad Cab was released so you could take the kids, the dog, and then scare them to death by jumping from zero to sixty in just fewer than five seconds - give Sparky a new love of life with this beast. The SRT-10 was not a hot seller because it had only a 9 mile per gallon gas rating for city driving, and just 12 gallons per mile for highway going. In august of last year it was selling for only 28k, and that was new! The truck held the 2004 record for fastest production truck in the world. The final Dodge SRT-10 rolled off the assembly line last June, and had only really been in production for just two years - but fear not! There is a likely chance they will bring it back in a new form when they switch to the 2009 Dodge Ram generation of trucks, although the SRT-10 designation may change.

Dodge Dakota
July 7th, 2007 by shenron
The Dodge Dakota entered service in the mid eighties and found itself not quite a compact and not a full sized truck, it is a mid sized truck capable of hauling many things that would normally be reserved for full size trucks, however lacks the overall power for some of the really heavy things. The Dakota is one of the highest rated trucks, and in 2000 it was awarded for being a good solid vehicle. It has a front engine layout and all wheel drive with a four or five speed automatic transmission. The current model was introduced in 2005 and remains in active production, expected to do so for many more years unlike the soon to be updated Dodge Ram. The Dakota is a versatile vehicle and as of this production run shares much with the Dodge Durango SUV design and chassis. The three engines available for the current Dakota are the V6 3.7L power tech, capable of 210 horsepower, along with the V8 4.7, and the V8 4.7 HO - all engines are Power-Tech.
The face lifted version is set for release soon - and many are calling it the “fourth generation” however the design changes seem to be minimal and not qualify it as an actual major generational change considering the current design is only two years old and most of the changes involve making the cab slightly bigger and updating the engines to be able to pull 7,000 pounds. Overall the Dakota is the best hauling truck in its class performance wise (based on hauling capacity with this updated future model) and would serve as an excellent mid-range truck for hauling lighter or median (or even some heavier) trailers like horse trailers or U-Haul trailers for moving. The Dodge Dakota is also very similar to the Mitsubishi Raider, and shares much of its design as the Mitsubishi Raider was largely based upon the Dodge Dakota.

Dodge Ram
July 5th, 2007 by shenron
The Dodge Ram is one of today’s most recognizable full size pickup trucks, being the direct descendant of the D-series and in existence for nearly 26 years, with a layout that is a front engine rear wheel drive or four wheel drive - and also in various cab designs ranging from extended cabs to crew cabs with four doors, or just the regular two seater. The first series of Ram Trucks were the D/W series, coming out in 1981 - and could be considered D Series due to the minor changes between the two and barely any internal modifications from the 1980 D Series and 1981 Ram (with the exception of cosmetics). The truck’s first gen had a range of engine power ranging from V6 125 horses to V8 235 horses, a solid and reliable truck with a three speed automatic. They began a new numbering system that relies on 1500, 2500, and 3500 (much like Chevrolet’s
Finally a second generation arrived with all the bells and whistles you would expect it to have, being in production from 1994 until 2001 (and 2002 for the 2500 and 3500). Most notably changed was the transmission, which now was a 4, 5 or 6 speed depending on if it was a 4 speed auto, or a 5 speed/6 speed manual. When this line hit the market you would have thought they were selling gold for half price, thousands upon thousands of units were sold and it became one of Dodge’s best selling automobiles. the Dodge Ram was given several options, designs, engines, lengths, widths, etcetera to choose from, with the Ram Tough V10 being its most powerful - at 310 horses. The design was then redone again and in 2002 the new and current generation of vehicles were released with 4 and 5 speed autos, along with a 6 manual transmission, and the 8.3 Viper V10 Engine as an option - slamming all engines before it at a whopping 500 horses. A fifth generation is planned in 2009 with a total redesign, having more capacity and better fuel economy - the Dodge Ram’s future as a solid truck is nearly assured.

Dodge D Series
July 5th, 2007 by shenron
Everyone remembers the “D”, or D Series Dodge truck, the descendant of the B, and C Series. It lasted as Dodge’s premier truck for nineteen years beginning in 1961 and ending in 1980, its successor is the Dodge Ram. It was a full size pickup truck with either a two door or four door design, and was based on the AD platform with front engine and rear wheel drive, along with four wheel drive. There were three generations in all, and was the first Dodge truck to have both an alternator and an automatic by using a three speed push button in the first generation of truck. t was also the very first truck to introduce crew cabs, and the engine with the most power this vehicle could handle was the wonderful wedge-head V8, producing 365 horses. In 64 the D Series Dodge was redesigned and included a better engine, with the 383 2 barrel as standard - allowing it to use 258 horses. This generation was short, and had various small changes - the most radical being the transmission - a 3-speed dash mounted or column mounted lever shifted automatic.
In 1972 the entire D Series Dodge was redesigned and looked different, and included some newer features lacking in previous models, such as the independent front suspension and also the 440 cubed inch engine as the standard for the light truck versions. It had an updated three speed column shifted automatic transmission and was put to use with the 440in RB V8 engine giving it 235, the other engine which was 400 cubic inches had 200 horsepower. In 1981 the line was not discontinued, but rather it lead onto a new generation which would have been the D series’ fourth - however they renamed the D Series the Dodge Ram, and thus the Ram was born - however the body style remained mostly similar until the Ram’s own revision in the nineties. The D series is a solid truck, useful in almost every situation and powerful for its era - although it was not entirely as popular as Ford, it has its place in history (The D Series Medium Duty was produced until 1978 along with the other versions - rather than discontinued in previous years leading up to 1978).
