Trailer Winch
September 21st, 2007 by Shenron
Do not confuse a winch to be a placeholder of a boat or any other particular vehicle. Trailer Winches are designed to load and unload boats. Winches are capable of being released when there is a large bump in the road, and the winch unlatches. To keep these winches from releasing from the boat, use separate tie-downs to ensure that it won’t move after hitting major bumps. For minor bumps, these Trailer Winches shouldn’t come loose, if they do, you might want to invest in one that is assured safety wise before buying.
There are many different types of winches that you are capable of using on a boat, which is the most common use for a Trailer Winch. To minimize the shoulder and back strain you might want to purchase an electric winch. With a free hand to guide the boat, and no strain at all to the muscles in your shoulders and back, this is a one of a kind type of winch that is extremely useful.
Winches with the capacity rating of at least half the combined weight of your boat, motor, and other gear that may increase the weight. Trailers usually have a standard winch assembly bolt pattern, so if the winch you are using is poor, you can replace it with no stress.
With some boats, the general design and construction may increase how much the boat may weigh, so that’s something you have to calculate and figure up. Such things that may weigh down the boat are, gasoline capacity, pounds of ice, fish, and any other items in the boat. Length is not pulled with winches, instead, the weight is. Be sure you are selecting the proper winch. Find out your boats weight and estimate its overall payload. Chafe on the winch line can be caused by it rubbing against sharp edges on the trailer or on the winch stand.
