Truck Stops
September 5th, 2007 by Shenron
A truck stop is essentially a commercial facility that provides all the necessities that a truck driver would need. A truck stop usually consists of food, fuel, and parking and occasionally other services for long-haul trucks. They can be found generally along busy highways or roads, and resemble convenience stores or restaurants decorating by nice Truck Stop signs. Many of these truck stops have a large array of services including both nice classy sit-down restaurants and a quicker, more convenient fast-food restaurant. Truck stops sometimes even offer barber shops, laundry mats, and even showers for truckers to bathe and cleanse themselves. Truck stops generally offer at least diesel grade fuel and parking spaces wide enough for modern tractor trailer trucks. Most of these truck stops have enough parking spaces to accommodate ten to a hundred and fifty or even more rigs.
Most of the time drivers who stop at a truck stop are able to sleep in the sleeping birth of their cab, but in order to get comfortable they might have to keep their engines running for warmth or to keep cool. Since this is often quite noisily, most truck stops ban this act around public areas. Some truck stops even have air conditioning and auxiliary power units that can aid the driver in doing whatever he can to relax and enjoy his stay. The majority of nice chain truck stops have a WLAN Internet access through out the parking areas; however most of these services are not free. Sometimes special areas are set aside for truckers, and this can include small arcades, bathrooms along with showers, a television set or two, and high speed Internet access for laptop computers and notebooks. Many truck stops even consist of a motel at a cheap rate along with a few accommodations to make the truck drive feel even more at home.
