We’re Moving - Information on Renting a Moving Truck

July 23rd, 2007 by Shenron

Moving is a very big decision some of us has to make at one point or another. We move to a new place, new apartment, new house, different city, or simply to a new address, a new job, running away from something or someone, whatever. This is just the first step.

Moving your home can be very stressful. First, you have to find a very good, reliable, and cost efficient moving and Storage Company. Some of these companies only cater locally, while others do long distance. You have to single out the ones that fit your requirement to narrow down your choices.

Shop around, ask for referrals, and do some online research to help you choose the right moving company. Some companies give seasonal discounts and special rates. Request for estimates from different moving companies and compare them.

Make reservations at least two months before the day you plan to move. Renting during the week may give you a higher chance of getting the truck that you need since most people move on weekends. You may even be able to get an off-peak discount.

You have to be careful in choosing your truck. You wouldn’t want a small truck if you have so many things to move. You will need more than one trip to haul and move all your stuff. You wouldn’t want a truck that’s too big for your need either. If your truck is so big and you only have few things to move, your things will shift during driving that might cause some damage to your items.

Generally, it is wise to rent a cargo van or trailer if you only have a small load of household goods. If you have one or two rooms of things to move, get a 14-foot truck. If you have three rooms to empty, use a 17-foot truck. If you have five rooms, get a 24-foot truck; or if you have to move all things from more than four rooms, then rent a 26-foot truck.

If you’re moving a long distance, it is wiser to rent a larger truck to make sure that all your things will fit in and you will not have to travel back and forth.

Don’t forget to investigate on the insurance coverage of the trucks and read carefully all terms and conditions on the contract for your protection. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

[...] A box truck is known by a few names, some call it a cube truck, others call it a cube van, and some even call it a box van or cargo truck.  Box trucks are quite simple vehicles.  They include a cab for the driver and passenger and an enclosed cargo area where goods, merchandise or almost any type of item can be stored or carried.  Box trucks are popular with many types of businesses including furniture companies, appliance companies and movers (moving trucks).
